Every test is a data point.
Every data point is a lesson.
Most typing sites show you WPM and stop. wpmtype tracks your per-key error rate, slowest bigrams, per-second consistency, percentile rank, and projected improvement curve — all in one dashboard.
Per-key accuracy heatmap

Consistency score
It's not just how fast you type — it's how steadily. Our consistency metric (coefficient of variation of per-second WPM) shows when you're rushing vs. pacing.
Goal projection
Set a target WPM. The dashboard projects when you'll hit it based on your current improvement rate — and tells you the exact areas to focus on.
Typing faster changes more than your WPM
Speed is the headline number, but it's the downstream effects that actually matter.
Reclaim hours a week
Going from 40 to 80 WPM cuts your writing time in half. For anyone who writes for a living — emails, docs, code, chat — that's hours back every week.
Think at the speed you type
When your hands keep up with your brain, ideas flow straight from thought to screen. Slow typing injects lag between thinking and writing — fast typing removes it.
A quiet professional edge
Developers ship faster, writers publish more, analysts produce deeper notes. Typing speed compounds across every keyboard-bound task in your day.
Better ergonomics, less strain
Proper touch-typing technique spreads load across ten fingers using minimal movement. Hunt-and-peck typists strain wrists and shoulders without noticing — until they do.
Good questions, short answers
Net WPM = (correct characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. Raw WPM uses total keystrokes instead of correct characters. Both are shown on the results screen so you can see the gap between your speed and your accuracy.
Yes. All typing tests, training lessons, games, and analytics are free. Creating an account is optional — your results persist in your browser until you sign up, then they migrate automatically.
We ship English by default and are rolling out Spanish, French, German, Urdu, Italian, and Portuguese word pools. The UI itself supports language switching via Settings.
It measures how steady your WPM stays across the test. Calculated from the coefficient of variation of per-second WPM — 100% means perfectly even pacing, lower scores mean you slow down on tricky sections.
Instant-start is a core principle. The typing test, all games, and training lessons work without an account. Signing up unlocks persistent dashboards, leaderboards, friend challenges, and cross-device sync.
Focus on accuracy before speed. Open your dashboard's Key Accuracy Heatmap — the red keys are where you lose the most time. Run a Key Training lesson targeting those keys, then return to the speed test. Repeat.
